Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
You might want to arrive a day or two early. Time changes can be tough, so this allows you to shake off the jet lag and get acclimated to the environment. If you arrive the day the tour starts, plan to get there before lunch to get settled before our start time. You can fly directly into Oslo from all European hubs.

9 Important Tips For Your Upcoming Trip
Entry
EU, US, UK, and Canadian citizens can enter Norway visa-free for up to 90 days. Others need a Schengen visa. The European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is scheduled to take effect in October 2025, so be aware of any changes.
Currency
Cards are widely accepted in Norway, including contactless payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay. As long as your card works internationally, there’s typically no need to carry cash. The Norwegian Krone (NOK) is relatively weak against many other major currencies, so pay attention to exchange rates.
Budget
Daily expenses can vary widely based on preferences. They range from 1300-1600 NOK (budget estimate) to 4000+ NOK (luxury estimate). Hotels cost 900–3000+ NOK, and high-end dining can run you up to 1000+ NOK per meal.
Transportation
Buses are an inexpensive way to get around the city (100–150 NOK/day), while trains and ferries can transport you across the country. A car rental affords you more freedom, and international driver’s licenses are accepted.
Communication
English is widely spoken, but locals appreciate a few Norwegian phrases like “Hei hei” (a greeting) and “Tusen takk” (a thousand thanks). Aside from Norwegian, Sami is an official language. There are also noticeable dialect differences.
Cultural Expectations
Norwegians value punctuality and direct communication. Politeness is appreciated, but overly formal behavior can feel unnatural or awkward. Straightforward and friendly is always the best way to go.
Royal Roots
The role of the Norwegian monarchy, currently headed by King Harald V, is largely ceremonial. Still, the royal family holds a special place in our hearts. They are a respected establishment and a symbol of unity and tradition.
EU Status
Norway is not part of the European Union but has Schengen status. The Schengen Agreement allows border-free travel with other Schengen countries. EU citizens can travel freely in Norway, and European Insurance Cards remain valid.
Weather
Norway’s weather varies by region but tends to be dramatic. Be mindful of Mother Nature’s mood swings! Whatever the forecast, dress in layers and pack rain gear. There’s no such thing as bad weather—only poor clothing choices.

“Pål was the BEST tour guide! He was so knowledgeable about everything - history, architecture, economy, traditions, politics, art etc. We got a wonderful sense of Oslo and Norway. He gave us recommendations for Oslo and our other stops in Norway. We wouldn't have appreciated what we saw nearly as much if we didn’t have Pal to explain the significance and symbolism, especially the City Hall and Vigeland Park. I can’t recommend him enough!"
