Anders Winroth is born in Sweden and a professor of medieval history at the University of Oslo and previously taught in the same field at Yale University.
What I enjoy about this book is how Winroth sees beyond the myth of the Vikings, and sheds new light on the complex society, culture, and legacy of these legendary seafarers. Yes, they pillaged, looted, and enslaved, but they were also merchants, farmers and engineers building some of the most amazing ships of its time.
This book is obviously where to start for anyone fed up with MGM’s ‘Vikings’ and even remotely interested in the real story behind.”—Karen Schousboe, Medieval Histories
